Batteries, Buggies & Benidorm

So here we are in 2017. Hogmanay was spent on the Aire just outside Cartagena (where all residents were given a bottle of sparkling wine). After a nice dinner we settled down sending the usual array of happy new year emails & texts. I’m not sure if and what any of you watched on TV that evening but we were stuck with the sky news channels coverage and to describe it as amateur & bloody awful would be a start!

We were both in bed for the bells and soon joined in the bedroom by Rockydog shaking & crying due to the Spanish love of fireworks and such ‘bangy’ things!!!!😒

Next day saw us head into Cartagena for a mosey around before hitting the coast road to Playa la Mata on the east side of Torrevieja where we wild camped in a street near the beach with a multi national contingent of vans. After a nice walk along the promenade we settled down to a relaxing evening but were soon plunged into darkness due to our leisure batteries finally giving up the ghost.

The next morning I went for a run and upon returning saw Mrs Mac talking to another lady. Upon closer inspection I recognised her (Teresa). She was then joined by hubby (Dave). We had met them in Lagos in mid November and had a wee social with them. They must of snuck in whilst we were in ‘blackout conditions ‘.

From la Mata, we headed for that well known British enclave of Benidorm where after a few attempts found a site with a vacancy for a few days. Also just happens to be the site where an old boss of mine is resident so it was good to see him.

No trip to Benidorm would be complete without a wander along the strip, people watching and avoiding the plethora of disabled chariots that come in singles, doubles and triple sweaters!!!

The strip was packed today (3January)  which made negotiating the crowds difficult so I could not imagine it in the height of summer.

Through the power of social media (Auto-Trail owners group on Facebook) I obtained details of a reputable and local mobile technician who attended and confirmed that our batteries were completely gubbed. He returned today with 2 new shiny 120ah leisure batteries and I’m off down the docks in my high heels, strutting my stuff to turn a trick or two – they were just a tad expensive- got to recoup my fish somehow 😂

So tomorrow is another day and we are north bound with planned overnight stops at Javea, Gandia and then a couple of days in Valencia before joining the owners club rally in Benicassim on 8 Jan.
